Chela's La Gringa Tacos
“Oh I wish I lived close to Alicia Parkway…that is where I’d truly like to be…”
That thought is in my head this morning, to the tune of the old Ocsar Mayer Weiner commercial.
Why do I wish I lived close to Alicia Parkway in Laguna Niguel? Because, I’d be eating the best darn fresh Mexican food in Orange County for lunch every day.
Yes, Chela’s Mexican Grill www.chelasmexicangrill.com is one of our clients, and I’m shamelessly plugging them, but for good reason! I had the pleasure of attending the restaurant’s soft opening last night and previewing a few menu items, and they were UNBELIEVABLE!
As we developed Chela’s website over the past couple months, I’ve been tortured by the photos of their entrees that are all over the website, and I’ve found myself constantly craving Mexican food. And I’m here to say the food is even better than it looks on the website!
I ordered the “La Gringa Tacos” www.chelasmexicangrill.com/menu – recommended by the staff and smartly so – flour tortillas, filled with meat (I tried chicken and steak), cabbage, guacamole, sour cream, onion, fresh cilantro, and – the best part – freshly grated cheese. (Let me tell you, there is a difference between the taste of freshly grated cheese and the industrial size pre-shredded stuff most places serve. ) The tacos were moist, fresh, and scrumptious!
My husband had Chicken Fajita (Chelas Style) Burrito – stuffed with sauteed red peppers, onions, mushrooms, black beans, and again, that incredible cheese! I told him I needed a bite so I could properly assess this restaurant, but he gobbled down the whole thing before I could sneak in my bite..sheesh! (But good sign.) I did grab a taste of his tomatillo salsa though, which was so mouthwatering that I literally sipped some. It tasted to me like freshly squeezed limes in there, which couldn’t be possible, or so I thought.
Chatting with the owner after my meal, I found out that indeed fresh limes are squeezed every day to make the salsa! (That sounds like a lot of work.) But I learned that apparently, fresh, sweet, perfectly ripe tomatillos are the real key to flavor there. BTW, nice kick to the salsa.
After thanking my client for a wonderful meal, I have to share that the love went both ways…he thanked me profusely for the great job Senior Project Manager Audra Gussin (5th from the left in our team photo www.goldencomm.com) did in leading the GoldenComm team through a successful website development project…completing the project on time and ready for the restaurant launch, and even making some urgent last minute changes on very short notice.
Chela’s Mexican Grills’ grand opening to the public takes place tomorrow, March 12, 2011. For location, see www.chelasmexicangrill.com/contact-us .
